Going Public

Faith in God is a challenge for everyone, especially adults. As we get older, we get more and more confident that we understand how the world works. And when our lives don’t go according to our plans or our understanding, we have a tendency to cast blame. Gideon is no different. His people have been suffering seven years of injustice at the hands of their neighbors. They’ve lost food, homes, family members and security. When God comes to answer their prayers and meets Gideon, he meets a skeptic with almost no faith in God. Gideon’s journey from skepticism toward faith is full of life lessons for seekers, skeptics, and life-long believers. This four-week sermon series will challenge you to confront your internal skeptic. It will force you to examine one of life’s key questions – “Do you really trust God?” This week’s teaching is Gideon’s first step as a public leader. God’s first assignment for Gideon was to disappoint everyone; his family, his neighbors and his entire town. It is a lesson for all leaders, that leadership is often a question of allegiance.
