(Not) Ready and Waiting

A little known priest named Zechariah went for his annual two week duty of helping in the temple. He is among thousands of other priests taking their turn. It is time for the daily prayer and he is picked to go into the Holy Place and make the offering. This will be one of the most unique and special moments of his life. And yet, when an angel of God appears in the Holy Place, he is so surprised that the Bible says he is frightened. If someone had asked him if he trusted God, he would have said, “Yes!” And if someone had asked him if he believed in God, he would have said, “Yes!” And if someone had asked if he believed God would answer his prayer, he would have said, “Yes!” But when God did appear and answer is prayer - he wasn’t ready - he was frightened and filled with doubt.
