Who Has The Answer?
C.S. Lewis famously wrote, ““There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them.” Throughout history, the church has errored on either extreme. Some churches seem obsessed with the devil, giving it far too much credit for the struggles of life. Other churches act as if the devil is an outdated fairy tale. Scripture lives in between. Jesus doesn’t mince words, “In this world we will have trouble…” There are forces within us, around us and beyond us that are threats to the life we want to live. It’s time to acknowledge that. But we can’t forget about the end of Jesus’s statement. Here is the full line – “In this world we will have trouble, but take heart I have overcome the world.” This Lent series was written to give you spiritual tools to fight the threats of the devil, the flesh and the world. We believe God has given us the power to break the bonds of evil for our sake and for the sake of God’s kingdom advancing in this world. In this third teaching, we will study what the Bible says about the human heart. Brace yourself, for it is in strong disagreement with our culture.
