The Most Unlikely Messengers

They say Christmas is the greatest story ever told and it must be, because it's been told and retold for 2000 years! The thought that God would become flesh and live among us is still a physical, social and theological scandal. Yet God did not chose to reveal the mystery of his plan to religious leaders or scholars – but instead he chose a random collection of characters to be the first messengers of the gospel. In this final week of advent, we will study the most unlikely messengers – a group of anonymous, shepherds. They weren’t educated, socially connected or prepared. In one night they transform from nomadic social outcasts to the first evangelists of the gospel! These ancient characters can teach us some important truths about this faith and our response to it.
