This week’s theme, “Power From on High,” invites us into the mystery and promise of Pentecost. The Spirit of God is not a distant force or abstract idea. He is the very presence of God with us—empowering, guiding, transforming.
In Luke 24, Jesus tells His disciples to wait until they are “clothed with power from on high.” It’s a striking image—God’s strength wrapping around our weakness, His presence filling our emptiness. And this power isn’t for personal gain or religious status. It’s for witness. For love. For courage in the face of fear, and hope in the face of despair.
This week’s readings remind us that the Spirit’s power is always tied to God’s compassion, justice, and faithfulness. God hears the groaning of His people in Egypt (Exodus 2). Elijah’s prophetic mantle passes to Elisha in 2 Kings, and with it, a double portion of God’s Spirit. In Micah, we see that true power is not coercion, but a call to speak truth and walk humbly with God.
The Spirit empowers us to live beyond our natural limitations—not for spectacle, but for service. Psalm 91 speaks of refuge, protection, and strength found in God alone. Ephesians 3 ends our week with a prayer—that we might be strengthened with power through His Spirit in our inner being, and know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge.
This week, ask yourself: Where do you need power from on high? Not just to get through the day, but to live with purpose, boldness, and love? The Spirit has been given. The promise is true. You are not alone—and you are not powerless.
