This week’s BREAD theme, “The Kingdom of God Is Among You,” centers on the reality that God’s kingdom is not a distant promise or a far-off dream—it is a present reality breaking into our lives here and now. Through the readings this week, we are reminded that the kingdom is both a gift to receive and a calling to embody.

When Jesus proclaimed that the kingdom of God is “within you” or “among you” (Luke 17:21), He shifted our understanding from a geographic or political realm to something profoundly spiritual. God’s kingdom is not about borders or rulers but about His reign in our hearts, relationships, and communities. It’s visible in acts of love, sacrifice, and justice, like the widow who gave all she had (Mark 12:41-44) or the blessings extended to the poor in spirit, the peacemakers, and the pure in heart (Matthew 5:1-12).

The kingdom of God is a kingdom of paradox. It is eternal and unshakable (Hebrews 12:28), yet it invites us to participate in its unfolding through small, seemingly ordinary acts of faithfulness. It is already here, revealed in the glory of creation and the rhythms of God’s love (Psalm 24, Psalm 145), and yet it is still coming in fullness.

This week, consider where you see glimpses of God’s kingdom in your life. How are you embodying its values of humility, generosity, and peace? The kingdom is among you—what a gift, and what a responsibility! May this truth inspire you to live in the “now” of God’s reign, carrying His light into every space you inhabit.
